On this vibrant and diverse land of New York, Tzu Chi has walked a journey of thirty-five years, weaving countless acts of compassion from one point to another.

From disaster relief and outreach to the homeless, to free medical clinics and educational programs, every footprint bears witness to the enduring power of compassion and Tzu Chi’s unwavering commitment to the community.

This year’s Charity Gala was not only a heartfelt reflection on Tzu Chi’s 35-year legacy of charity and education across the U.S. East Coast but also marked a milestone moment — the launch of the Flushing Center Reconstruction Project, a new chapter in the organization’s mission of love and service.

🌿 Meeting Community Needs — Expanding the Space of Love

Located in the heart of Flushing, the Tzu Chi New York Service Center has long served as a base for relief distribution, free medical consultations, and volunteer training — a place where countless stories of kindness have unfolded.

Executive Director Steven Su noted that the current space can no longer meet the growing needs of the community:

“During snowstorms, people line up outdoors to receive supplies. We have to set up temporary tents to protect them from the cold. To continue serving more people, we must expand — to give love a larger space to grow.”

According to Tzu Chi’s long-term plan, the new building will rise six to nine stories high, integrating the foundation’s Four Missions — Charity, Medicine, Education, and Humanistic Culture.
The preliminary design envisions a central kitchen, vegetarian dining hall, community health clinic, and a youth volunteer training center, creating a multi-functional space that promotes care, health, and education.

Su emphasized that,

“This project is designed to improve service quality, not to generate profit. The central kitchen and dining facilities will focus on community meals and volunteer support, not commercial operation.”

✨ The Charity Gala — A Night of Reflection, Vision, and Action

The evening began with reception at 5:30 PM and the official program at 6:30 PM, featuring touching volunteer stories, cultural performances, and a presentation on the reconstruction plan.
Guests reflected on three and a half decades of Tzu Chi’s compassionate service in the Eastern United States and celebrated the beginning of an inspiring new phase.

All proceeds from the gala will go directly toward strengthening local charity programs and initiating the Flushing Center reconstruction.
Upon completion, the new center will serve as a dynamic hub for charity and education, empowering the community with renewed compassion and humanistic energy.
