New York Myanmar Chinese Association Celebrates 49th Anniversary and Lunar New Year with Grand Gala

Flushing, New York – February 21, 2025 — The New York Myanmar Chinese Association marked its 49th anniversary alongside a festive Lunar New Year celebration honoring senior community members. The event was held successfully in Flushing, bringing together community leaders, diplomats, and elected officials in a vibrant show of unity.

William Su, President of the New York Myanmar Chinese Association, attended with the association’s core members. Distinguished guests included Ma Xiaoxiao, Deputy Consul General of China in New York; Pan Yan, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office; Consul Rong Ding; Amir Farid Abu Hasan, Consul General of Malaysia in New York; and representatives from U.S. Congresswoman Grace Meng, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and the Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs. Also in attendance were New York State Senator John Liu; Assemblymembers Grace Lee and Ron Kim (represented by Ellen Young and Kelly Luo); and Assemblymember Steven Raga (represented by Jing’an Zhao), who presented official citations.

The event also received strong support from Chinese community associations, including Chen Heng, President of the American Fujian Association; Chen Zhaoyin, President of the Fujian Association of America; Zheng Zhenhe, President of the Sanshan Association of America; Li Xiangmei, President of the Northeast Association of America; and Wang Jicheng, President of the Henan Association of America.

The gala brought together Asian communities from across the United States, highlighting President William Su’s leadership and ability to unite outstanding Asian Americans from diverse backgrounds. His efforts have made a significant contribution to strengthening the visibility and influence of the Asian community.

In his keynote speech, President Su reflected: “Looking back on the past, though the journey has been full of challenges and hardships, we also feel grateful. With the strong support of so many friends, we are more confident to move forward with courage. May our friendship last forever.”

Looking ahead, Su pledged to engage the younger generation, bringing fresh energy to the association: “A new year opens new hopes and carries new dreams. Together, let us work hard and strive for a brighter future.”

The celebration blended tradition with unity, reaffirming the association’s commitment to community service, cultural heritage, and the empowerment of future generations.
