“Echoes of Peace” Commemorative Event Held at United Nations Headquarters
New York, August 13 – The “Echoes of Peace” cultural exchange event, co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, was held at UN Headquarters in New York. The event marked the official launch of the overseas series of “Echoes of Peace” programs.
Vice Minister of China’s Publicity Department and President of CMG Shen Haixiong delivered a video address. Chinese Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Fu Cong, UN Under-Secretary-General Melissa Fleming, and Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation Chairman Jeff Greene attended and delivered remarks. More than 100 guests, including diplomats from over 30 UN member states, representatives of UN agencies, and descendants of Flying Tigers veterans, were present.
Ambassador Fu Cong emphasized the decisive role of the Chinese people in the Allied victory of World War II, recalling the enormous sacrifice of 35 million Chinese lives in the fight against Japanese militarism. “Eighty years later, peace and development remain unfinished tasks. We gather here not only to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory, but also to renew the UN’s founding mission and to work together for a shared future of peace,” he said.
The evening featured a powerful multimedia presentation projected onto the UN Headquarters façade, blending historical World War II images with modern peace-themed visuals. Inside the venue, a documentary film and live musical performances created a solemn and moving atmosphere. Veterans’ descendants and cultural leaders shared personal stories and reflections, underscoring the event’s message of remembrance and unity.
During the ceremony, Ms. Winny Power, President of Times Square Global Live and Chairwoman of the World Mazu Culture Foundation, presented several distinguished guests with a Chinese calligraphy piece bearing the character “和平” (“Peace”), created by renowned artist Li Guiming. The gift symbolized China’s cultural values of harmony and peace, while highlighting the power of cross-cultural exchange.
As the evening concluded, UN officials, foreign diplomats, and cultural representatives gathered against the Manhattan skyline for a commemorative group photo—capturing a historic moment of shared remembrance and aspiration.
Organizers emphasized that “Echoes of Peace” is not only a tribute to history, but also a pledge for the future—to ensure that the lessons of war are never forgotten, and that the voice of peace continues to resonate across the globe.
