High-Level China-Uganda Meeting on Green Development at UN HLPF
New York, UN Headquarters — July 24, 2025
During the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) at UN Headquarters, a significant bilateral meeting took place between the Chinese Broad Group (USA) delegation, led by President Sunny Wong, and Rt. Hon. Kasule Lumumba Justine, Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister of Uganda.
The meeting, coordinated by Ms. Winny Power, Vice President of the US-China Entrepreneur Association and media representative of Times Square Global Live, focused on sustainable urban development, green building, and clean energy. Discussions produced positive preliminary outcomes and laid the groundwork for future China-Uganda cooperation in green development.
The dialogue reflected the growing commitment of China and Africa to advance sustainable development within the framework of the UN 2030 Agenda, highlighting the important role of private enterprises in this global mission. Minister Lumumba praised Broad Group’s innovations in energy-efficient building technologies and sustainable construction, and expressed support for expanded participation of Chinese businesses in Uganda’s green infrastructure initiatives.
As coordinator of the meeting, Ms. Power also presented the Asia-Pacific and China Education Cooperation Platform of The Hague Business School (Netherlands), which she represents. She emphasized the importance of institutional partnerships in higher education, youth empowerment, women’s leadership development, and cross-cultural talent training.
“Sustainable development is not just about technological progress or industrial transformation; it is equally about nurturing human capital and exchanging ideas,” said Ms. Power. “Education is the starting point of our shared future and global community.”
To advance this vision, Ms. Power formally invited Broad Group and other Chinese enterprises interested in Africa’s green transformation to join a delegation visit to Uganda to gain firsthand insights and explore practical collaboration. Minister Lumumba welcomed the initiative and confirmed Uganda’s readiness to facilitate such engagement.
The meeting attracted attention from multiple business delegates attending the HLPF, demonstrating the value of multilateral platforms in connecting global resources and fostering international cooperation.
As a gesture of cultural goodwill, Ms. Power presented Minister Lumumba with a traditional Chinese calligraphy artwork featuring the character “福” (Fu, meaning “blessing” or “good fortune”), created by Mr. Guiming Li, a Chinese-American community leader. The gift symbolizes harmony, shared prosperity, and collaborative spirit between China and Uganda.
