New York, October 20, 2025 — The United Nations inaugurated the exhibition “Shared Lives, Shared Future” at the General Assembly Lobby to commemorate the Organization’s 80th Anniversary, highlighting eight decades of global cooperation, peace efforts, and multilateral achievements.
Co-organized by the UN Department of Global Communications and the Permanent Missions of Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland, the launch ceremony brought together ambassadors, senior UN officials, diplomatic representatives, and international partners to honor the UN’s legacy and reaffirm the importance of shared global responsibility.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres delivered the keynote address, underscoring the enduring role of multilateralism in confronting contemporary global challenges.
“For eighty years, the United Nations has stood as a symbol of our shared hope and collective resolve. Our lives are interconnected, and our future depends on our ability to work together — across borders, cultures, and generations — to build peace, justice, and sustainability for all,”
said the Secretary-General.
The exhibition features a dynamic collection of photographs, multimedia stories, and field narratives that spotlight human resilience and global collaboration — from humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping to climate action, education, gender equality, and technological innovation. Each exhibit underscores the human-centered vision embodied in the UN Charter and the collective effort to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ambassadors from Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland also addressed the gathering, reaffirming their countries’ long-standing commitment to multilateralism, international cooperation, and the UN’s mission in promoting peace and sustainable development.
The event concluded with a reception attended by diplomats and delegates, symbolizing international friendship and the shared commitment to shaping a peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future.
