Wall Street Rallies as Oil Prices Slide on Hopes of Easing U.S.–Iran Tensions

Wall Street rallied on Monday as investors responded positively to signs of a possible easing in tensions between the United States and Iran. The development sent international oil prices sharply lower and helped reduce concerns about rising energy costs and inflation.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington could hold talks with Iran concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and had postponed further military action while diplomatic efforts were being explored.
Following the announcement, global oil prices fell by approximately 5% to 6%. Lower crude prices offered some relief to financial markets, as prolonged disruption in the Middle East could place additional pressure on global supply chains, transportation costs and consumer prices.
As of late Monday morning in New York, all three major U.S. stock indexes were trading higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained approximately 1.06%, the S&P 500 rose 1.22%, and the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.87%.
Major technology companies helped lead the rally. Amazon shares climbed approximately 5.3%, pushing the company’s market capitalization above $3 trillion for the first time. Alphabet and Meta also recorded strong gains as investors returned to large technology and artificial intelligence-related stocks.
Positive economic data provided additional support to the market. The Institute for Supply Management reported that its U.S. Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index rose to 55.6 in July, its highest level since May 2022. The figures indicated continued expansion in manufacturing activity, new orders and factory employment.
Despite Monday’s market optimism, uncertainty remains. Iranian officials offered a different account of the proposed talks, suggesting that no confirmed diplomatic agreement has yet been reached. The rally therefore reflects investor expectations of possible de-escalation rather than evidence of a finalized agreement between Washington and Tehran.
Developments in the Middle East, fluctuations in global oil prices and the upcoming U.S. employment report are expected to remain key factors influencing Wall Street in the days ahead.
